Iron Curtain Cabaret

Iron Curtain Cabaret is a series of drag shows, where the artist performs sequences of carefully curated Soviet Songs. The combination of drag aesthetics and songs rooted in rigid conservative structures of Soviet ideology, both deconstruct and rejuvenate them. The tone of the performance is carefully balanced to be humorous, but not parodic, channeling sincere feelings, exploring the artist’s own sexuality, and exposing the absurdity of queer-phobia still present in post-Soviet propaganda.

Dozens of these concerts have happened at galleries, festivals, private residences, each performance has a unique plot. Artist is happy to travel to perform often at his own cost, as long as there is a receptive audience.
